Yarn

Yesterday I started knitting a hat. One of the yarns I am using is shown below. This is how the yarn ball looks now. In all my years of knitting, I can't recall seeing a ball of yarn unwind and form a star.

Saint Marys

A few pictures I took this morning.

The shoreline, in the background, is Florida.

Most towns limit parking to a couple of hours!

Columbus Day - color

Today while having lunch I noticed a color scheme going on in my living room ----- when did this happen! The other day I received this darling card from my sister. I put the card on the mantel.

Then my eyes travelled down to the two pillows on the couch -

and then on to the library book I'm reading -

the coasters on the table -

and then over to the kitchen island.

I seem to be in a lime and orange phase.

Now that the tourists are gone, it is time for others to enjoy the beach.

Hurricane Bill

Before the days of television's Weather Channel and storm trackers, folks relied on their barometers. As you can see, a hurricane is accurately being recorded.

Pendant

Yesterday I finished beading this pendant. The center portion is a piece of beach glass.

Toys

My Dad has become a blogger and can be found at http://www.dave-davestime.blogspot.com/ He has been posting about children's toys and what he played with as a child. They played with knives, while his "proper" little girls, opted for guns. Below is a collection that I still have.

Ammo required was nothing more than a ping pong ball.

Not only did we (and still do, upon occasion) enjoy playing with these guns, the nephews and brother-in-laws have also gotten into the act.
P.S. - I just did a search to check on these toy guns (K-Gun) and the first thing that came up was an e-bay site (three days left to bid) with a current bid of $45 for a single gun. Hmm.

messages

Are you familiar with the message banners pulled by airplanes? Here at the beach they are popular. Today we had:

1. Rosa Linda's - full breakfast - 2 eggs bacon - $3.99

2. Mark, happy 40th birthday

3. Lobsta Claw - lobster rolls - ribs

4. I'm sorry. I love you.

Lace Knitting

This summer I've been busy knitting lace. As a birthday gift, I bought the book Knitted Lace of Estonia by Nancy Bush, along with a cone of Sea Island cotton which is from the West Indies. This is such a luxurious project to work on.

Scones

It is only 70 degrees here this morning with dense fog. A perfect day to bake a batch of blueberry scones.

May Bead Journal Project

The final "page" is complete. This memory ornament is in honor of my late mother-in-law. The lace was taken from the underdress to her wedding gown. When it actually came time to cut into the dress, just couldn't do it. The gown itself is nothing but lace and therefore had a silk and lace underdress. Some of the lace on this part of the gown was damaged so that is where I cut into it. The pin was from her childhood.

Summer Season

With July 4th, the summer season is official and these pictures show what happens to a little beach town when the population of 5,000 year round residents increases to 100,000 for the next eight weeks.

Photo Shoot

Photography 101 - Be sure your subject is not wearing a lampshade.

But what do you do when it is cold and rainy at the beach and your subject insists on wearing a lampshade to stay warm.
